During the negotiations in Tokyo, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, the head of the Cabinet said.
Ukraine will receive more than $12 billion in aid from Japan. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced this on Telegram after a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Tokyo on February 19.
“Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Japan’s position in supporting Ukraine remains unshakable. During our meeting, he said that Japan will provide $ 12.1 billion in aid to Ukraine, including the announced and implemented amount,” he wrote, without specifying. How long will this money be allocated?
According to him, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed in today’s negotiations: liberalization of the visa regime, intensification of trade, continuation of the pressure of sanctions on Russia.
“We have agreed to open negotiations on updating the agreement on the promotion and protection of investments. Our goal is to provide investors with reliable legal protection and guarantees,” added Shmygal.
Earlier on Monday it became known that Japan will allocate 1.25 billion euros to support investors in Ukraine. Tokyo also allocated a new grant today for the next phase of the emergency recovery program.
It was also reported that Japan became the largest financial donor to Ukraine at the beginning of the year.
