The head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture apologized for the grain incident at the border, but stressed that Polish farmers “will understand.”
Poland’s Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Sekierski asked on behalf of farmers for forgiveness for Ukrainian grain spilled from trucks. At the same time, the Polish official said that the farmers are said to be “understandable,” and “the reaction of Ukraine is extreme.” This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland.
The minister also said that he wants to get Ukraine to impose restrictions on the supply of agricultural products. He added that his ministry is conducting technical negotiations with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
“We want to determine the terms of trade that will limit the influx of goods that disrupt the stability of agri-food markets,” Sekersky assured.
However, he said that “this is the wrong method of protest, but it is often used by farmers in different countries.”
“The farmers did not hold back their feelings, but we must not forget that they are in a very difficult economic situation. At the beginning of the spring farm work, they do not have money to buy fertilizers and plant protection products. It’s hard to understand how desperate they are,” – convinced the representative of the Polish government.
According to him, the representatives of the Ukrainian authorities could not fight either.
“The forms of the statements of the Deputy Minister of Economy, and previously the mayor of Lvov, were too harsh. Other Ukrainian politicians were too emotional in presenting information,” believes Sekersky.
As you know, on February 9, Polish farmers started a new nationwide strike. It will last until March 10. Five checkpoints were blocked the previous day.
In addition, it was learned that around 1,250 trucks were standing in queues at the Polish border.
