Since the beginning of this year, the regulator has sold more than $2.4 billion in the interbank market, and bought just $1.17 million.
The National Bank of Ukraine reduced the sale of foreign currency in the interbank market for the fourth week in a row. This was confirmed by data on the regulator’s website on Sunday, January 28.
So, in the period from January 22 to January 26, the NBU sold $421.3 million in the interbank foreign exchange market – the lowest amount since the beginning of 2024. The regulator also bought $520, which was the highest in January.
Overall, since the beginning of this year, the National Bank sold more than $2.4 billion in the interbank market, and bought only $1.17 million.
Let us remind you that this week the hryvnia exchange rate has significantly decreased. Last Friday, the NBU sharply raised the dollar exchange rate.
It was also reported that Ukrainian banks have imported a record amount of foreign currency since 2014. In December alone, $1.33 million in foreign currency was imported into the country.
