Apple already paid a fine of 906 million rubles in February last year.
The American corporation Apple has paid a fine of 1.2 billion rubles imposed by the Russian antimonopoly authorities on the Russian budget. The funds came to the Russian budget on January 19. Kommersant reports this in connection with data from the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that the FAS fined Apple in July 2022, accusing it of discriminatory requirements that prohibit iOS application developers from informing customers in the applications itself about the possibility to pay for out-of-App purchases Store, as well as using alternative payment methods. Apple has also limited links to developers’ online resources, preventing such applications from appearing in the App Store.
In October 2023, Apple officially allowed Russian developers to include the ability to pay with third-party payment systems in their programs for iOS and iPadOS. However, for purchases using third-party systems, Apple will charge a 27% commission. The standard App Store commission is 30%. The ability to insert external links is available only to developers from Russia; links will not be shown to users from other countries.
Last February, Apple already paid a fine of 906 million rubles, imposed by the FAS at the request of the Russian Kaspersky Lab.
It was previously reported that Spain’s National Competition Commission (CNMC) has imposed fines worth 194.15 million euros on Apple and Amazon for possible anti-competitive actions in the online market.
