Discover 5 hidden facts in ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’, film from today’s afternoon session, 22
The afternoon session this Monday, 22nd, will feature the screening of ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’, the third film in the trilogy of the same name created by DreamWorks Animation. The plot, released in 2019, follows Hiccup in search of a peaceful home for dragons, while facing a new and dangerous threat.
With this in mind, RECREIO has put together a list below with 5 interesting facts about the feature film by Dean DeBlois, which are worth knowing. Look:
1. New house
The first ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ film hit theaters with distribution by Paramount Pictures, while the second title was distributed by the now extinct 20th Century Fox. But, what about the third?
Following its predecessors, the animation had a completely new house: the Universal Studios. In this way, the franchise became the first in the history of DreamWorks Animation to have each title distributed by a different studio.
2. Various dates
Responsible for ending the animated franchise of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ in theaters, the film was highly anticipated by fans. Even so, the anxiety of those who followed the entire saga was put to the test several times, as the final plot had six changes to the premiere date, as explained by the Cinepop portal.
This happens because the first date informed to the public was June 2016. But, after the release of the second title, in 2014, the arrival of the third film on the big screen was postponed to June 2017, undergoing yet another postponement in 2018, when the animation department at DreamWorks underwent a restructuring and the film was expected to be released in June of that year.
However, the date would conflict with Warner’s competitor, “A Lego Adventure 2”, causing the premiere to be brought forward to May 2018 and then changed to March 2019, until Universal became responsible for distribute the film, defining the film’s official release date: February 2019!
3. Drago Bravolo should return
The dragon tamer and main villain of the film “How to Train Your Dragon 2” was expected to return in the final sequence with a redemption arc. Still, the team changed its mind with the start of production, introducing a new antagonist to the plot: Grimmel.
4. Visual not approved by fans
In the film, Toothless ends up undergoing a visual makeover to represent the passage of time and the aging of the dragon — but the change was not well received by fans of the franchise. This is because, at the time the first images were released to the public, some complained about the new scales, while others did not like the change in the character’s look, which appeared with round and expressive eyes,
5. Oscar history
“How to Train Your Dragon 3” was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and despite not having won the category, it was responsible for achieving a historic feat, as with the nomination, the franchise became the first animated trilogy in history to have its three chapters nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature — too much, right?
