A large lithium deposit with an ore reserve of 1 million tons has been discovered by Chinese geologists in the southwest of the country.
In Sichuan province, southwest China, a large lithium deposit was discovered, with mineral reserves amounting to nearly 1 million tons. This was reported by the Xinhua agency in connection with the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.
It is noted that these are the largest deposits in Asia of monomineral fractions of pegmatite-type lithium ore (formed at the final stage of magma crystallization under the action of volatile components – ed.). Chinese authorities will help increase the supply of lithium ore.
Lithium is the lightest and softest metal. It is used to improve the strength and ductility of metal alloys, including in the defense and nuclear industries, as well as in the manufacture of glass and ceramics, electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and solar panels.
In addition to China, significant reserves of lithium ore have been discovered in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Australia and the United States.
Let’s remember that in 2023 a deposit of rare earth minerals was discovered in Sweden. Last August, a new gas field was discovered in Ukraine, the reserves of which may reach 1 billion cubic meters.
