The European Commission rejected Poland’s request to renew tariff quotas for some Ukrainian products. This was said by Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Sekierski, reports Business Insider.
“We approached the European Commission with a request to restore tariff quotas for some sensitive products, but this was rejected by the EC,” the official said.
The European Commission is preparing a draft resolution to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine until June 2025, a Polish official confirmed.
According to him, he will soon talk with the European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis about the current situation related to the excessive import of agricultural products from Ukraine, as well as about the draft and amendments on EU regulation that would expand duty-free trade in Ukraine. until June 2025.
The Polish ministry wants to introduce a mechanism that will “protect Polish farmers.”
He added that the first results of the Polish-Ukrainian negotiations on this issue are already visible.
“In the current difficult situation, we want to develop a method acceptable to all participants to protect against the negative consequences of importing agricultural products from Ukraine. We are analyzing and conducting internal consultation on, in particular, the mechanism for licensing the export of agricultural products to Poland proposed by the Ukrainian side, “he said.
As you know, the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure signed an agreement with the organizers of the blockade. The protesters agreed to suspend their protest until at least March 1, awaiting a solution to their problems by the new Polish government.
