The head of the tax committee is not yet ready to predict the financial impact of such a change, but notes that taxes should be too high.

The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine is preparing proposals for the taxation of hemp production in connection with the legalization of medical cannabis. The head of the tax committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Daniil Getmantsev, said this in an interview with the publication RBC-Ukraine.

“We recently legalized medical cannabis. Will hemp cultivation activities increase the tax base? It will. Can we talk in this context about additional revenues for the budget? We can. I’m serious , “said Getmantsev.

The head of the committee is not yet ready to predict the financial impact of such a change, but notes that taxes should be too high.

“I definitely think it’s wrong to tax hemp production in the same way as wheat production – 300 UAH per hectare. I think more is needed,” Getmantsev added.

According to him, European conditions are necessary for the taxation of hemp cultivation.

“There are different approaches: there is an excise tax, an option depending on the area. I know that the Ministry of Finance is now preparing proposals,” said the head of the tax committee.

Let’s recall that in December last year, the Verkhovna Rada voted in the second reading for the legalization of medical cannabis in Ukraine. The law will enter into force six months after its publication – in the second half of 2024, the parliament predicts.
