In December 2023, net purchases of foreign currency by Ukrainians reached a record high of $1.026 billion. This is confirmed by data from the National Bank.
The data shows that Ukrainians bought more foreign currency in December than they sold.
Last month, currency purchases by Ukrainians hit an 11-year high (in 2012, net purchases were $2.17 billion in October, followed by $1.52 billion in November)
In December, Ukrainians reduced sales of cash foreign currency to $1.26 billion; instead, purchases increased to $2.06 billion.
Individuals also increased purchases of non-cash money – up to $530 million from $507 million in November.
Non-cash currency sales in December rose from $260 million in November to $312 million. In November, net purchases of foreign currency by the population reached $622 million.

Earlier, the National Bank explained that the weakening of the Hryvnia in December was due to an increase in demand for the currency.
