Since 2023, the regulator has sold almost $29 billion in the interbank market, while buying about $220 million.
The National Bank of Ukraine sold $892.7 million in the period from December 25 to December 29, but bought only $870 thousand. This was confirmed by data on the regulator’s website on Saturday, December 30.
In the last work week of 2023, sales in the interbank foreign exchange market fell by $86 million. This is the first drop this month.
In total, since the beginning of 2023, National Bank sold $28.83 billion, while earning nearly $220 million.
Let us remind you that on December 29, the NBU for the first time raised the dollar exchange rate above 38 hryvnia – this is a new historical maximum.
Earlier, the National Bank explained that the weakening of the Hryvnia in December was due to an increase in demand for the currency. But the exchange rate of the Hryvnia should change in both directions, and the regulator smooths out these changes, said the Deputy Head of the NBU Sergei Nikolaychuk.
