In the best case, the network will be able to resume operation for 24 hours, and in the worst case, a week.
Consequences of a hacker attack on the system of one of the largest mobile operators Kyivstar turned out to be worse than expected. It is reported Correspondent.net company employees.
According to them, the hackers were “killed” not only Chorus – the main control point for the entire network of the operator, but also destroyed the configurations at the transit base stations (the main nodes where some other stations work). For example, in the Kyiv region there are about 1,500 base stations, of which 150-200 are transit.
“If you have to move them manually and not remotely, it could take at least a week. Repair teams have already left for some such stations. But we hope we can raise them as soon as possible Chorusso communication can appear somewhere for a day, and then only point-by-point,” said one of the company’s engineers.
It should be noted that the company’s president, Alexander Komarov, previously reported that the cyber attack was aimed at “the maximum possible destruction of the virtual IT infrastructure” of the mobile operator. However, according to him, there has been no leakage of user data yet.
We remind you that on the morning of December 12 Kyivstar reported a massive outage in its network. In some regions, in addition to mobile communications, wired Internet does not work. The company later confirmed the information about the cyber attack.
