Washington-Donald Trump listens to Rudy Julian’s drunken advice Instead of his professional advisers, a former Trump election adviser testified before a House commission investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol , 2021.
On election night, Julian was “really drunk” when he told campaign supporters that Trump must have wrongly claimed victory, Jason Miller, a former Trump adviser, said in a video deposition released by the committee on Monday.
“Mary was really drunk, but I didn’t know the level of her intoxication when she spoke to the president,” Miller said in a video deposition when asked by committee staff.
“Mary Julian said we won. They are stealing from us. Where did the rumors come from? “We have to go and say we’re going to win, and essentially those who don’t agree with this position are weak,” Miller said.
Monday’s hearing, the committee’s second public presentation of evidence, focused on Trump’s lie that he actually won the 2020 election as part of a larger conspiracy to overturn the results. The attempt culminated in an uprising on Capitol Hill on Jan.6 in which Trump supporters tried to intimidate members of Congress to oust the College of Voters results.
The committee also played video clips of a previous interview with Julian and Trump campaign staff Bill Stepien, who also confirmed that Julian said on election day that Trump should declare victory even if the ballots are still pending.
Miller and Stepien said they told the president it was too early to declare victory, but Trump disagreed.
“It’s too early to call,” Stepien said. “Ballots are still being counted. It is too early to make such a statement. “
Several other people close to the president, such as former Attorney General Bill Barr, said in a video testimony given to the committee that they told the president in the weeks before the election that there was no widespread fraud. Former interim Attorney General Rich Donohue confirmed that the Justice Department has thoroughly investigated dozens of potential fraud cases, but all of them are baseless.
“There are so many allegations that when you answer him directly to one of them, he won’t argue with us about this issue, but will move on to another case,” Donogi said.
Summarizing the testimony, Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) Said, “President Trump rejected the advice of his campaign experts on election night and instead took the advice of the seemingly drunk Rudy Julian, who just said he won and insisted he stop counting the votes. “It’s all fraud.”
Julian denied Monday through a lawyer that he was drunk on election night. According to CNN.
In an interview with the committee, Julian said, “I spoke with the president several times that night.” Interviewers did not seem to ask Julian if he had been drinking on election night; He said he loved Scotch whiskey, but declined alcohol.
The committee then played a clip of Trump that night calling the election a “hoax” and saying, “Actually, we won this election.”
After the hearing, HuffPost asked committee member Jamie Ruskin (D-Md.) Why Julian was essentially tortured on election night.
“It doesn’t matter to me,” Raskin said. “It’s just a fact that was clarified during the interrogation, but it further undermines any credibility you may have placed on his decision.”
