Stephen Colbert pointed out that former President Donald Trump did not “hide” attempts to cancel the 2020 presidential election.
Colbert, in his monologue Monday, is considering the second hearing of the Assault Chamber Select Committee on Jan. 6, 2021. The host of the Late Show said he sympathizes with the committee’s efforts to remind Americans that “we are not mad “.
The presenter said the former president’s attempt to cover Americans with gas should come as no surprise.
Colbert played a clip of Trump from September 2020, in which a reporter asked him if he planned to run for a peaceful presidency after that year’s election.
“We want to have – we’re removing ballots and you’ll have a lot – we’re going to have very peaceful – no transfers, honestly, there will be extensions,” Trump said.
Colbert responded to the clip with a few selected words.
“Here is your proof. “Your Honor: Expose the hole,” he said.
“He told everyone he was going to commit a crime, then he went and did it. I remember OJ [Simpson’s] The first book: “When I did it”.
