The National Bank of Ukraine bought back the cash hryvnia received by European central banks.
The National Bank of Ukraine has completed the return of cash hryvnias exchanged abroad by Ukrainian refugees in 2022. The total amount is 970164300 hryvnias. This was reported by the press service of the NBU.
“At the end of November, the NBU received all cash hryvnias exchanged in 2022 by European central banks,” the statement said.
In 2022, the National Bank entered into agreements with the central banks of Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, Latvia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Sweden and the Netherlands, which provided the possibility to exchange cash hryvnia for local money for Ukrainian citizens. who were forced to leave their homes due to the onset of a full-scale Russian invasion.
According to the agreements, after the completion of the exchange transactions, the NBU bought the cash hryvnias received by the central banks, the total amount of which reached 970 million 164,000 300 hryvnias.
The main hub, which at the time of return to Ukraine accumulates cash hryvnia, the exchange of which is carried out in all ten European countries, is the National Bank of Poland.
We remind you that from December 1, the National Bank removed all restrictions on the sale of cash currency to the population. The regulator believes this will help stabilize exchange rate expectations and increase the stability of the foreign exchange market.
Against the background of the decision of the NBU, the hryvnia exchange rate continued to grow in the cash market. The average dollar exchange rate in Ukraine fell to 37.50 Hryvnia, the euro exchange rate fell to 40.85 Hryvnia.
