In Uganda, a 70-year-old woman gave birth to twins. The IVF procedure helped him in this. The BBC reported this with reference to the International Women’s Hospital and Fertility Center.
Safina Namukwaya gave birth to a boy and a girl on November 29 by caesarean section at a fertility center in the capital Kampala.
Doctors described the pregnancy as a “medical breakthrough” and said the babies were born early at 31 weeks and placed in an incubator. Dr Edward Tamale Sali said their condition is now “stable”.
Safina herself told the Gandhian newspaper Daily Monitor that her pregnancy was difficult because her partner left her when he found out she was carrying twins.
“Men don’t want to be told you have more than one child. My husband hasn’t shown up even once since I came here,” he said.
It is known that this is the second birth of the girl in the last three years. In 2020, she gave birth to a baby girl.
The mother of three has shared that she wants to have children after being mocked for being childless.
It was previously reported that 67-year-old Ugandan farmer Musa Hasahya, who has 12 wives, 102 children and 568 grandchildren, asked his wives to use contraceptives.
