Ukraine produced 5.16 million tons of steel in 10 months of 2023, which is 11.7% lower than the volumes for January-October 2022, but the figures for October 2023 are significantly higher than the figures for in October 2022.
Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in October this year increased steel production by 79.62% compared to the same period last year – to 571 thousand tons from 318 thousand tons. As Censor.net reports, Ukraine took 22nd place in the ranking of 71 countries – global producers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).
The top ten steel producing countries in October: China (79.09+15.1%), Japan (7.52 million tons, +2.6%), USA (6.83 million tons, +3.4%), Russia (6.3 million tons, +9.5%) , South Korea (5.49 million tons, +6.5%), Iran (3.08 million tons, +3.5%), Turkey (2.97 million tons, +4.2%), Germany (2.88 million tons, -8.8%) and Brazil (2.61 million tons , -10.2%).
In total, in October 2023, steel production increased by 0.6% compared to the same period last year – to 150.03 million tons.
The top ten steel producing countries based on the results of 10 months of the year: China (874.7 million tons, +1.4%), India (116.27 million tons, +12.1%), Japan (72.92 million tons, -3%), USA (67.44 million tons, +0.8%), Russia (63.49 million tons, +5.3%), South Korea (55.91 million tons, -0.2%) , Germany (30.11 million tons, -4.1%), Turkey (27.45 million tons , -8.8%), Brazil (26.47 million tons, -8.6%) and Iran (25. 14 million tons, -0.1%).
In January-October this year, 71 countries produced 1.57 billion tons of steel, which is 0.2% higher than the same period in 2022.

Metinvest recently calculated the amount of steel needed to rebuild Ukraine. The reconstruction of destroyed housing and social infrastructure in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion requires about 3.5 million tons of steel.
