The hryvnia received from the sale will be used for economic activities and for the payment of taxes, it was explained to the parliament.
The Ukrainian parliament has authorized, until December 31, 2024, through non-Russian and non-sanctioned banks, the one-time sale of Russian and Belarusian rubles in non-cash form from accounts in resident banks , which was frozen at the start of the full invasion. The Verkhovna Rada web portal reported this on Wednesday, November 22.
It should be noted that 242 people’s representatives voted for the corresponding amendment No. 62 on the law on improving state regulation of financial services markets No. 9422, which was adopted on Wednesday.
People’s Deputy Andrei Motovilovets from the ruling faction Public servant before the vote in the Verkhovna Rada, he commented on the relevant document.
“When publishing the law for the second reading, consultations were held with the National Bank. The amendment concerns Ukrainian taxpayers who have blocked accounts in rubles. We allow them to sell at the same time, receive hryvnias and use this money for economic activities, to pay taxes,” he explained.
As we already wrote, in October, Ukrainians bought a record amount of currency for 10 years. In turn, the NBU sold the largest amount of dollars in the interbank market since June last year.
In addition, the National Bank is preparing for the second phase of easing monetary restrictions. Meanwhile, the regulator continues to implement a shift to greater exchange rate flexibility and a return to inflation targeting.
