Sergei Marchenko said that without the support of Ukrainian partners, there could be a budget problem, which would also affect EU countries.
An economic crisis can await in Ukraine in 2024 without financial support from partner countries. In particular, a “hole” of about $29 billion could appear in the budget. This was said by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergei Marchenko, reports Politico.
According to him, the nearly 30 billion “hole” in the budget of Ukraine will have side effects for EU states. Ukraine needs urgent help and is open to reforms, particularly in the area of anti-corruption.
“We are ready for the discussion, but we are not ready for the fact that this may cause a delay in providing support to Ukraine. We need money from the beginning of next year, “said Marchenko.
He added that the consequences of the economic crisis “will be very, very traumatic not only for Ukraine, but for all of Europe.”
“Because it may also have consequences for Europe… because of the transfer, because of the spillover effect, because of the big increase in prices across Europe, especially for some food products, and maybe again for oil and gas.” explained the officer.
The head of the Ministry of Finance has again called on the allies to transfer to Ukraine about $300 billion of Russian assets frozen by the G7 countries after the aggressor launched a large-scale invasion.
“For Ukraine, it is a legitimate priority to acquire Russian fixed assets for the restoration of Ukraine,” Marchenko stressed.
It should be noted that the World Bank predicts a positive growth of the Ukrainian economy of 3.5% this year against the backdrop of the war with Russia.
