The value of purchases of men’s clothing increased significantly in 2022, surpassing imports of women’s clothing for the first time in history.
The structural changes in the economy caused by the war led to the development of a major shortage of goods in Ukraine, and the range of imported products shows trends that never existed in the Ukrainian economy before the war. This is stated in the inflation report of the National Bank of Ukraine for October 2023.
It was noted that due to the reduction in domestic production, the share of intermediate consumption goods decreased. But the share of investment and dual use has increased
In particular, the value of purchases of men’s clothing increased significantly in 2022, exceeding imports of women’s clothing for the first time in history and more than doubling.
The National Bank said this was due to purchases to ensure the country’s defense capability.
Similar changes, albeit on a smaller scale, occurred in the procurement of other goods for the army. The share of unmanned vehicles in mechanical engineering imports increased from 1.9% in 2021 to 2.8% in January-July 2023, and canned goods in food imports – from 4.7% in 2021 to 5.5% in January. August 2023.
We remind you that the Ministry of Defense bought winter clothing for military personnel for another 628 million Hryvnias. Since the beginning of summer, the total value of transactions reached 1.87 billion Hryvnia.
