If in the first half of 2022 $287 million was invested in Russian startups, then in the first half of this year – $27 million.
In Russia, the amount of investments in startups in the first half of 2023 decreased by more than ten times compared to the same period in 2022: from $287 million to $27 million. The Russian publication writes about this in relation to data from the Russian platform Dsight Kommersant.
It was reported that the largest share of investments in the first half of the year came from private funds – $11 million, year-on-year this number decreased almost nine times.
Investments from business angels amounted to $6.6 million, corporations and corporate funds – $6 million. The amount of funds from public investors reached only $2.5 million, which decreased year-on-year by 27 times. Foreign investments were recorded at only $0.6 million.
“In the current economic situation, venture investments are not a priority: some funds that have invested in projects with a focus on the Russian market prefer to buy foreign companies that are leaving the market at a huge discount,” say the experts.
It was previously reported that foreign investors withdrew $36 billion from Russia throughout the year.
