Burkina Faso’s Energy Ministry said the nuclear power plant will allow the country to meet its energy needs.
It is noted that the agreement was signed in Moscow at the request of the head of the Burkina Faso junta, Captain Ibrahim Traore, to the Russian President Vladimir Putin, voiced during a summit in St. Petersburg in July.
The agency noted that neighboring Mali and Niger are also strengthening ties with Russia, particularly in military cooperation.
The memorandum, signed in Moscow on October 13, does not contain details about the financing or construction schedule of the nuclear power plant.
It was previously reported that Russia seeks to expand and strengthen African influence.
