Ukrzaliznytsia is trying to resolve all issues at the expense of its largest client, said the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine.
The increase in tariffs for the transportation of Ukrzaliznytsia must be agreed with the Ukrainian business, because it is in a state of crisis and may not be able to withstand the next increase in the cost of logistics services. The head of the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine, Sergei Belenky, said this on Monday, October 9.
According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia “traditionally tries to solve all issues at the expense of its biggest consumers, such as the mining and metallurgical complex.”
“We systematically resist such attempts to increase tariffs. Unfortunately, today, taking advantage of the war, most of the government’s decisions are made without discussion with businesses and specialized business associations. But the consequences of such actions will be complicated, because we will not be able to work stably,” he warned Belenky.
Recently, information appeared about the intention of Ukrzaliznytsia to increase tariffs for cargo transportation by 20%.
Belenky believes that such an increase in tariffs will not help Ukrzaliznytsia earn more, because businesses whose products are no longer competitive will begin to close. Social tension will increase, as more Ukrainians will lose their jobs.
“We will be forced to close businesses with all the social consequences. Because such actions of the authorities, which cannot be justified, lead to devastating consequences comparable to those we have from a large-scale invasion in Russia ,” Belenky concluded.
We remind you that in July 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia increased tariffs by 70%. This led to an increase in the cost of Ukrainian products and a decrease in the volume of business production.
At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia promised not to increase freight transportation tariffs in 2023.
