The Ukrainian authorities have introduced a mechanism for joint control of four food products to protect the interests of Polish farmers.
Ukraine does not want to impose an embargo on the supply of Polish vegetables and fruits and hopes to reach an agreement. Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka stated this in an interview with radio station RMF24.
“I hope that there will be no Ukrainian embargo on Polish apples and vegetables,” he said.
According to the official, the possible introduction of an embargo on the import of Polish apples, tomatoes, onions and cabbage to Ukraine will be “the last step, and the main goal is to reach an agreement” on the Polish side.
“Plan A is to find an agreement. We presented a mechanism for joint control of four food products (wheat, rapeseed, corn, sunflower, – ed.) to protect the interests of Polish farmers,” Kaczka said, adding that Ukraine has backed away from the idea of a “general ban.”
“Poland will decide how much of this grain to put on its market,” the official added.
Let’s recall that Kachka previously said that Ukraine will begin the process of filing a claim with the World Trade Organization against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia for their extension of the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain after September 15, contrary to the decision of the European Commission. The official also said that Kyiv will be forced to respond to Warsaw’s actions and introduce a ban on the import of vegetables and fruits from Poland.
