Former Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a political speech in South Carolina that Republicans “really want” the impeachment of President Donald Trump, but they are “in no mood.”
The former Wisconsin congressman made the announcement at a rally in Florence Wednesday, where he praised Congressman Tom Rice (RSC), whom he supported, for his courage to vote for impeachment after 6 uprisings. January 2021 .. Rice and nine other Republicans join Democrats in impeachment, making Trump the first president in U.S. history to be twice impeachable, even though the Senate has not condemned him.
Rice is now embroiled in a heated battle for re-election for a sixth term against Trump-backed State Congressman Russell Fry. The former president decided to punish any Republican who did not show him loyalty.
“A lot of people say they vote consciously, they vote for the constitution, they vote for their faith, but when it gets hard to do it, they do. “Don’t do it,” he said.
“Tom Rice is a compelling man,” Ryan added.
Ryan criticized CNBC last week of “entertainment” lawmakers – on both sides – who are trying to build an overt “brand” instead of working with colleagues to pass the law.
“If you’re going to be happy, if you’re trying to prove that you’re better than others in your own ecosystem,” it makes it harder to compromise and falsify the rules, Ryan says. “It divides us,” he added.
Ryan, who served as Speaker of the House from 2015 to 2019, resigned from the political establishment after 20 years in office and chose not to run for re -election in 2018 after an embarrassing confrontation with former President Trump.
Ryan first supported Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign, but then withdrew his support a month before the election after a record “Access Hollywood” came out in which Trump boasted about how he “caught” women. Trump then slammed Ryan as dishonest AND accused him of deliberately ruining his campaign.
Ryan said in an interview last year that it was “really obvious” that Trump lost the 2020 election and was not deceived like Trump and many of his loyalists continue to claim.
