“Good news: this year, after many years of negotiations, the physical flow of natural gas between Azerbaijan and Hungary began,” said Szijjártó.
According to him, the current agreement provides for Hungary’s purchase of 100 million cubic meters of gas and the storage of another 50 million cubic meters.
Szijjarto added that Hungary will strive to eventually increase the volume of Azerbaijani gas imports to 1 billion cubic meters.
“Whether it will be successful depends not on us and not on Azerbaijan, but on the EU, because the infrastructure in South-Eastern Europe does not yet meet the needs of the diverse Central European states,” said minister
It was also reported that Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov visited Budapest the previous day.
It will be recalled that in July of this year, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began filling Hungary’s underground storage facilities with gas. At the same time, Russia remains the main supplier of gas to Hungary.
