From August 29, Ukrainian banks will be able to sell non-cash foreign currency to the public for up to 50,000 hryvnias per month without confirmation of grounds. This was reported by the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine.
“From August 29, 2023, for the first time since the start of a full-scale war, the National Bank will allow banks to sell non-cash foreign currency to the population without confirming the grounds or obligations for such an operation. The corresponding Operations will be carried out at the rate set by the bank, within a monthly limit equal to UAH 50,000 in a bank,” the statement said.
The National Bank also decided from August 29 to increase from UAH 100,000 to UAH 200,000 (equivalent) the monthly limit on the purchase of non-cash foreign currency with subsequent placement in a deposit within three months.
“Such a tool will be available to citizens from July 21, 2022. These changes will contribute to the reorientation of part of the population’s demand from cash foreign currency to non-cash, since transactions for the sale of non-cash currency of banks is more. convenient and safe,” explained the regulator.
It was noted that the National Bank is implementing the previously published Strategy for the easing of foreign exchange restrictions, the transition to greater exchange rate flexibility and a return to inflation targeting. As part of the first phase, it is planned to reduce the multiplicity of exchange rates.
The deputy head of the NBU, Serhiy Nikolaychuk, said that Ukraine could leave the fixed hryvnia-dollar exchange rate even before the end of the war.
