Five European Union countries have agreed to request an extension of the ban on grain imports from Ukraine.
Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia are in favor of extending the EU ban on the import of Ukrainian grains to these countries until the end of the year. This is what Poland’s Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said, Reuters reports.
“We support that the import ban in our countries be extended until the end of the year. That is, I want to say that even if it fails, as far as possible, countries will put their own specific restriction. Our declaration on this matter is clear,” he said.
According to the official, the agriculture ministers of the five countries also agreed that they support subsidizing grain transit, and they also want to add others to the list of prohibited products, such as raspberries, in the case of Poland.
Recall that in May, the European Union allowed five countries neighboring Ukraine to impose a ban on the sale of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds on the domestic market, but at the same time the transit of goods that it is for export to other countries.
This ban will expire on September 15th. At the same time, Ukraine expects that all restrictions of the European Commission on agricultural exports to Ukraine will be removed.
