Today the European energy market’s dependence on Russian gas is almost 40%. It is impossible to immediately replace such an amount of resource.

European countries will be able to completely abandon Russia’s gas use within three to five years. This forecast was announced by the General Director of GTS Operator of Ukraine, Espresso reports on Thursday, March 31.

According to him, today the dependence of the European energy market on Russian gas is almost 40%. It is impossible to immediately replace such an amount of resource, but it all starts with the first step.

Makogon recalled that Germany intends to build LNG terminals and is negotiating with Qatar. Italy also announced the construction of two LNG terminals. Negotiations are underway on gas supplies from Algeria and other countries.

“In my opinion, if Europe takes the course of reducing dependence on Russia’s energy carriers, then in three to five years it will be possible to abandon the resource from this source of supply,” Makogon said. .

Recall that the GTS Operator called on the European Union to limit the transfer of Russian gas through the Nord Stream-1 gas pipeline in conditions of war.

Gas in Europe rose to $ 1,500 after Putin’s order
