“Laboratory meat” is grown from cells taken from animals in large vats, similar to breweries.
The US Department of Agriculture has issued a permit for the sale of artificially grown meat. This was reported by CNN.
Upside Foods and Good Meat received a license to sell so-called “cultured chicken meat”. They say that “laboratory meat” is grown from cells taken from animals in large vats, similar to breweries.
The product has received all the necessary approvals not only from the US Department of Agriculture, but also from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The United States has become the second country in the world to allow the sale of “laboratory meat”. Before that, it was only legally sold in Singapore. Good Meat advertises their product there, calling it “no-slaughter meat”.
According to company representatives, “laboratory meat” can make the practice of meat consumption more humane, as well as help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change.
Upside Foods plans to supply “laboratory meat” to a restaurant in San Francisco. It is still unknown when it will be possible to test the test-tube meat there. However, the company plans to sell its product in supermarkets in the future.
In this regard, Good Meat will work with a restaurateur in Washington.
It will be remembered that in 2020, the Singaporean authorities for the first time in the world gave permission for the sale of chicken meat produced by the laboratory.
