Polish growers are asking the government to stop importing strawberries from Ukraine, indicating that they have overtaken the country’s market.
The Polish Horticultural Association has asked the government to take urgent measures to limit the import of strawberries from Ukraine and to stop it completely in the future. This was reported on June 16 by sad24.pl.
“Due to the information that has appeared in recent days about the import of large quantities of industrial strawberries from Ukraine to Poland, we ask the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to intervene and take urgent measures to stop possible training,” the statement said.

Association President Miroslav Malishevsky said that Ukrainian strawberries fill the Polish market.
“The fruit industry is in danger of collapse. Due to the fact that the market is completely open, Polish entrepreneurs have lost price competition. The cost of strawberry production in Ukraine is several tens of percent less than our country,” he said.
According to Malishevsky, a serious situation is developing in the processing industry. Polish producers of frozen foods, strawberry juice or puree reduce purchases of domestic fruits, because they have the opportunity to buy cheaper strawberries in Ukraine.
Polish gardeners insist on preventing a similar situation in the Ukrainian grain market, when uncontrolled imports collapse the market and lead to a significant drop in prices.
In addition, gardeners are concerned that strawberries imported from Ukraine do not meet safety requirements. They insist that every batch from Ukraine be stopped and checked for quality, mainly for pesticide residues. And they are asking to suspend further trading in the product until the test results are received.
Recall that earlier the European Union extended restrictions on grain imports from Ukraine until September.
