The State Statistics Service recorded an increase in monthly inflation

In May, consumer price growth in Ukraine accelerated to 0.5% from 0.2% in April after slowing from 1.5% in March, 0.7% in February and 0.8% in January. Since the beginning of the year, prices have increased by 3.8%, according to the State Statistics Service (Gosstat) on Friday, June 9.

At the same time, prices in May 2023, compared to May last year, increased by 15.3%. This is lower than the annual inflation rate a month earlier – 17.9%.

Core inflation fell to 0.3% last month from 0.5% in April and 1.3% in March, the State Statistics Service said. Considering the fact that in May last year, core inflation was 1.4%, in annual terms, it also fell to 15.9% in May from 17.2% in April, 20.1% in March and 22.7% – following the February results.

Food prices rose 19.7% during the year. Eggs increased the most – by 124.9% and vegetables – 28.1%.

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 14.6%, for clothing and footwear – by 2.1%.

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 3.6%.

Household goods and household appliances increased in price by 18.5%, health care – by 14.0%, transportation – by 10.6%, communication prices increased by 9.8%, for entertainment and culture – by 11.6 %, for education – by 9.6%, restaurants and hotels increased in price by 19.4%, various goods and services – by 17.9%.

Recall that at the end of March, the National Bank announced that inflation began to decline earlier and faster than expected.

And at the end of April, the NBU changed the forecasts for inflation, GDP and international reserves of Ukraine to the best.
