Treatment improves the quality of life of patients with hemophilia

Hemophilia is one of those rare diseases that everyone has heard of. He became particularly infamous during the tainted blood case. In need of regular blood products, hemophiliacs paid a high price at the time, with nearly 2,000 people contracting the AIDS virus.

Hemophilia results in the inability of the blood to clot properly and causes prolonged or spontaneous bleeding. We are talking about a genetic mutation that affects the production of proteins necessary for coagulation. Because this mutation is carried on the X chromosome, males are almost always affected. The most common hemophilia, type A, is associated with a lack of coagulation factor VIII and affects about 7,000 people in France.
