Data collected by the Layoffs.fyi portal suggests that the number of layoffs in the technology sector in 2023 will significantly exceed the number for the previous year.
So, since the beginning of this year, 718 technology companies have laid off 200,040 people. Last year, 1,024 companies laid off more than 154,000 employees.
In particular, last week Alibaba announced a 7% cut in its cloud division’s staff, and Meta Platforms Inc. the third round of layoffs began this year.
Tech companies that have announced layoffs this year include US Amazon, Electronic Arts, Roku Inc. (SPB: ROKU), Palantir Technologies, Twilio, DocuSign, Salesforce, Zoom Video Communications, eBay, Dell Technologies, PayPal Holdings, International Business Machines, Intel, Microsoft, Alphabet, as well as German SAP and Swedish Spotify Technology.
Recall that in March, the largest US online trading platform Amazon announced that it would cut another 9,000 jobs.
