Pernod Ricard stopped all exports of its international brands to Russia at the end of April.
The French company Pernod Ricard, which is the second largest wine producer in the world, on Friday, May 12, announced its complete withdrawal from the Russian market. This was stated in a company statement.
“Pernod Ricard can confirm that it has stopped all exports of its international brands to Russia by the end of April 2023,” the statement said.
The company also added that it will stop distributing its products in Russia, which is expected to take several months.
Pernod Ricard is the owner of the Absolut brand of Swedish vodka, which previously announced the resumption of exports to Russia.
In Sweden, it caused a public outcry, many politicians called for a boycott of this brand of vodka. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that “many consumers find this action strange.” In addition, several restaurants and bars stopped selling Pernod Ricard products.
Remember, on April 4, we reported that Pernod Ricard, which owns the Jameson whiskey brand, continued to deliver products to the Russian market. The company commented on the availability of Jameson whiskey in Russia. In particular, they said that since the “start of the war” the company prioritized the “protection of local workers both in Ukraine and in Russia.”
We add that in the summer of 2022 it became known that the import of strong alcohol in the Russian Federation decreased by almost 35% due to sanctions.
