The European Commission has imposed a ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria until June 5.

It is noted that the extraordinary and temporary preventive measures are carried out in accordance with the Regulation on Autonomous Trade Measures, they are necessary due to the overflow of storage capacity and supply chains due to the existing serious bottlenecks in logistics faced by these five Member States, and may be extended.
The transit of these goods through five EU states or other countries outside it is maintained.
“At the same time, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia promised to cancel their unilateral measures against wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds, as well as any other products coming from Ukraine,” said of the statement.
These measures are part of the general support package proposed by the Commission and will be complemented by financial support for farmers in the five Member States and follow-up measures to facilitate the transfer of Ukrainian grain exports through “solidarity paths” with other Member States. and third countries.
“The Commission is ready to re-impose preventive measures after the expiry of the current Regulation on autonomous trade measures on June 5, 2023, while the exceptional situation lasts,” the European Commission added.
Recall that earlier Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria introduced a temporary ban on the import of grain and other types of agricultural products from Ukraine. Poland even stopped the transfer of such products to its territory, but it resumed from April 21.
The European Commission has proposed an aid package for farmers from countries bordering Ukraine, including financial aid and other measures.
