The NBU predicted a decline in agricultural exports

The National Bank’s forecast assumes normal functioning of the grain corridor until the end of the year.

In the second quarter of this year, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products may decrease by $200 million. This is what the Deputy Head of the National Bank Serhiy Nikolaychuk said on Thursday, April 27.

“We take this factor into account, and in the second quarter we reduced the export of our agricultural products by approximately $ 200 million. Of course, the loss of supplies to our neighboring countries, which introduced the appropriate restrictions, will be more significant, but we are also considering the possibility of reorienting to other countries, including by using the grain corridor,” said Nikolaychuk.

He pointed out that for the third and fourth quarters of this year, the regulator does not allow further losses in export volumes.

“We know that there are some risks associated both with the possibility of prolonging these sanctions by neighboring countries, and with the greater complication of the work of the grain corridor. We analyzed these risks quantitatively, but again, the our baseline scenario, as in the January forecast, assumes normal functioning of the grain corridor until the end of this year,” added the deputy head of the NBU.

Recall that in April, some Eastern European countries introduced a temporary ban on the import of grain and other types of agricultural products from Ukraine. Poland even suspended the transit of such products on its territory, but it resumed from April 21.

The rest of the countries are gradually strengthening control and inspection of agricultural products from Ukraine imported into their territory.

Now the European Commission is studying the issue of Ukrainian agricultural exports. No final decisions have been made yet.
