CERTIFICATES – They left Paris for their children, but their new life in Toulouse or one of the Vercors villages is far from the panacea they had hoped for. Boredom, estrangement from loved ones and dead-end careers make them regret their move.
With a Robbie Williams T-shirt, his adoring smile and a hoarse voice from singing too much at his childhood idol’s concert the day before, Clemens looks like a teenager. “I wonder, if I take the train tomorrow, I will actually stay here. I miss Paris so much,” jokes the 41-year-old lawyer with a half-fig, half-grape smile. Today, in 2021, Kleman left for Verkorner with her husband, Alban, and two children, 3 and 13 years old. The decision was made for the welfare of their generation. Exclusively. “We wanted to offer children a good childhood. The eldest is fond of horse riding and was worried about us having a horse. We were also attracted by the idea of raising the smallest in the middle of nature, not in the squares,” he says. Between the pots and the bottles, they initiate the move. After two years, the observation is clear. “The children live their best lives, and we waste them,” he regrets.
