Rail workers are already seeing a significant drop in traffic because of border and grain corridor problems.
In April, the volume of grain transportation by rail fell to the lowest level in the past five months. This was said by Valery Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Commercial Department of Ukrzaliznytsia, Rail.insider reports on Thursday, April 20.
It is indicated that during the 19 days of April, 1.537 million tons of grain cargo was transported for export by rail. 1.157 million tons were brought to the ports, and 380 thousand tons to the crossings on the western border.
“It is lower than last month and lower than the last almost five months. If such dynamics continue, in general we will export less than 2.5 million tons per month. In the best months , we transported 3.2 and 3.4 million tons That is, we saw that there was a significant subsidence of traffic due to problems at the border and the grain corridor,” said Tkachev.
The amount of loading of agricultural products also decreased. From the beginning of April, the indicator reached 1.457 million tons. This is 21.9% of the total volume. At the same time, the average daily load is 77 thousand tons against 100 thousand tons in autumn and January.
In addition, a decrease in the movement of wagons with cargo of grain at the border was recorded. If at the beginning of April this number reached 590 units of rolling stock, then it decreased by 37%, to 374 wagons.
The previous day, Ukrzaliznytsia said that Poland should receive more than 3,000 wagons and four container transit trains with agricultural products, the transport of which was agreed before the introduction of restrictions.
Recall that on April 18, Poland and Ukraine agreed to resume transit of agricultural products. At the same time, imports from Ukraine will continue to be banned.
