A tanker with Russian raw materials will arrive at Karachi port in May. Imports are expected to reach 100,000 barrels per day.
Pakistan has placed its first oil order with Russia at a discount in accordance with a bilateral agreement between the two countries. This was reported by Reuters on April 20, citing Pakistani Oil Minister Musadiq Malik.
As part of the deal, Islamabad will only buy crude oil. Its import is expected to reach 100,000 barrels per day.
According to Malik, the first tanker with Russian oil will arrive at Karachi port in May. Processing will be done by Pakistani businesses.
The minister did not disclose the amount of the Russian oil discount, as well as the currency of the transaction. It was earlier reported that the estimated price for Pakistan could reach $50 per barrel.
According to the agency, Pakistan has expanded the sales market for the Russian Federation, adding to growing sales to India and China against the backdrop of Western sanctions.
Recall that in January, representatives of the governments of Pakistan and Russia agreed on the supply of Russian oil. As part of the agreement, Islamabad will develop a comprehensive energy security plan that includes importing oil, liquefied natural gas, pipeline gas and other fuels from Russia.
The country expects imports from Russia to meet up to 35% of its oil needs in the future.
