Shutdown of activities at the mine bambasdue to different social conflicts intensified in December last year, which led to the loss of positions in the ranking of manufacturers copper.
According to the report Ministry of Energy and Minesthis reduction saw it drop two positions and now ranks sixth after being ranked fourth in the top copper producer rankings.
With a modified report in February mine kualaveko Anglo American is the fourth largest producer of 17,370 metric tons (TMF) of copper.
Las Bambas, on the other hand, moved up to sixth place as its production reached 14,040 TMF; that is, it fell by 22.3% compared to what was achieved in February 2022.
For its part, Minera Chinalco ranks fifth and is above Las Bambas. While Cerro Verde, Antamina and South Peru finished first, second and third respectively.
Las Bambas production in decline
The mine reached full production capacity in 2017 and has seen a steady downward trend since then.
In 2018, its activity fell by 14.9%, while in 2019 it was 0.7%, and in 2020 it was 21.7%.
Las Bambas could produce between 265,000 and 305,000 tons of copper this year, according to the National Society of Industry.
