Budapest will control the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products with the help of electronic devices and patrols.
Hungary approved a list of 25 agricultural products temporarily banned for import from Ukraine. This was reported by Hungarian public broadcaster Hirado on Wednesday, April 19.
According to the decision of the country’s government, the ban applies to cereals, rapeseed and sunflower seeds, flour, vegetable oil, honey and some types of meat. The restrictions will last until June 30.
In Budapest, such measures are explained by the protection of local farmers and consumers. At the same time, the country does not prohibit the transit of products from Ukraine. They can be transferred to Hungary, but the relevant border authorities will check them, monitor them with electronic devices and patrols.
Carriers who violate the rules can be fined, and the fine can reach the full value of the shipment.
Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that the EU will take “preventive measures” against Ukrainian agricultural products. They can affect Ukrainian wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed. Other sensitive products will be investigated.
It was also learned that a trilateral meeting will be held today with the participation of Ukraine, the European Commission and five EU countries to resolve problems with the import of agricultural products.
