Turkey has started supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bulgaria. Sözcü TV channel reported this on Wednesday, April 12.
It was indicated that today at the Turkish LNG terminal Marmara Ereğlisi in the Sea of Marmara, a gas launch ceremony was held with the participation of Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov, CEO of BOTAŞ oil and gas company Burhan Ozjan and CEO of Bulgargaz Denitsa Zlateva.
“Today’s batch will reach approximately 55 million cubic meters of LNG, during the year the total supply will exceed 1.5 billion cubic meters,” said Ozcan.
According to him, the start of gas supplies to Bulgaria from Turkey is important not only for the two countries, but also for Europe, as it will help ensure its energy security.
“We can say that this is the first link in this process,” said the head of the Turkish company.
Today, the amount of LNG entering Turkey has reached 161 million cubic meters per day.
“This is equivalent to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. So, we are showing Bulgaria and other European countries the potential of our country, which can be used,” added the BOTAŞ CEO.
Agreement on the supply of LNG from Turkey to Bulgaria in the amount of 1.5 billion cubic meters. m was signed on January 3, 2023. It is designed for 13 years.
Recall that Turkey recently completed the construction of a gas pipeline connecting the Sakarya field in the Black Sea with an onshore distribution terminal. Next week, gas will start flowing through the Turkish gas transmission system.
