The Committee said on Jan. 6, Led by GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk Tours Capitol Just Before Attack –

On January 6, 2021, a bipartisan chamber committee was announced investigating the attack. Thursday focused on MP Barry Lodermilk (R-Ga.), Stating that he had new evidence that he was touring the Capitol a day before the deadly uprising.

“Based on our review of the evidence available to the select committee, we believe you have information on touring parts of the Capitol Complex on January 5, 2021,” said a letter from Loudermilk Congressman Benny Thompson (D-Miss). .), Chairman of the Committee and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Vice President.

Committee leaders said new details about Loudermilk’s tour that day came after public statements and testimony from Trump rally supporters were “involved in gathering information about the location of the U.S. Capitol. States, as well as the offices of the House and the Senate ”. January 6, 2021. “

Capitol tours were suspended on what appeared to be a Loudermilk tour due to COVID-19 custody.

“We are writing to ask for your voluntary cooperation to carry out our investigation,” the committee leaders wrote to Loudermilk.

Here is a copy of their letter:

In more detail, Thompson and Cheney suggest that Republicans deceived or deceived the Jan. 6 committee on the House Administration Committee – of which Lodermilk is a member – when they previously claimed they reviewed security footage from the Capitol in the days before January. 6 Attack and conclude that there are no tours, large groups and no one in “Maga hat” at the Capitol of the Capitol.

“The selection committee’s review of the evidence directly contradicts this denial,” Thompson and Cheney said.

The committee leaders asked Ludermilk to meet with them and talk about the Capitol tour he did that day. They dedicated themselves on Sunday 23 May but made it clear that they were willing to meet him whenever possible.

“If you are not available that week, we can arrange an alternative time for the meeting. “If you would like to have this meeting with you in your area, we would also be happy to explore travel arrangements to facilitate this option,” they said. “Americans deserve a full and accurate account of what happened.”

Loudermilk later issued a joint statement with a senior member of the House Administration Committee, Congressman Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), In which he dismissed the committee’s claims on Jan. 6.

“A constituent family with young children meeting with their congressman in the interior ministry is not a suspicious group or an‘ intelligence tour ’,” they said. “The family has not yet entered the Capitol”.

Ludermilk and Davis accused the committee on Jan. 6 of “spreading misleading narratives” about Republican lawmakers conducting “reconnaissance tours” of the Capitol with Trump rally supporters before the uprising.

“None of the places the family went to at 5 were hacked at 6, the family did not enter the Capitol area at 6, and no one in this family has been investigated or charged since Jan. 6,” they said.

A Loudermilk spokesman did not respond to a request for comment about the conclusion of the congressman’s meeting with the committee on Jan. 6.
