Italy has become the leading supplier of wine to Russia with a market share of 30%, ahead of Spain and Georgia.
In 2022, the export of Italian wine to Russia will increase by 16% and reach a historical record of 172 million euros. This was announced on April 1 by the Association of Agricultural Producers of Italy Coldiretti.
It was noted that last year Italy became the leading supplier of wine to Russia with a market share of 30%, ahead of Spain and Georgia.
More than half of the Italian wines sold in Russia are sparkling, particularly Prosecco. Their total value last year was more than 91 million euros, an increase of 28% compared to 2021.
Coldiretti recalled that EU sanctions prohibit the sale of luxury goods in Russia worth more than 300 euros per unit, including alcohol. However, this applies to a limited segment of Italian products.
