Chisinau aims to diversify sources of natural gas supplies to ensure the country’s energy security.
The Moldovan company Energocom bought 24 MWh of gas from the Romanian Commodity Exchange for the first time. It was announced on March 31 by the press service of the state enterprise.
It is noted that the cost of gas is 240 Romanian lei (about 48.82 euros) per 1 MWh.
“This purchase was made to test a new mechanism for the purchase of natural gas and create a new supply chain. The gas is subject to resale by JSC Moldovagazthe price does not include the cost of transportation,” Energocom specified.
The company added that they are currently looking for partners from different countries to make new gas purchases.
Recall that in November 2022, for the first time in history, Moldova imported natural gas by reversing its system from west to east.
And since December last year, the country has refused to consume Russian gas, directing all received from Gazprom fuel in unrecognized Transnistria. Moldova consumed gas purchased by the state enterprise Energocom on the stock exchange and stored in Romania and Ukraine.
