The Ministry of Agrarian Policy announced the first forecasts for the harvest

The projected area of ​​grains and industrial crops for the 2023 harvest is 19.3 million hectares.

The total total harvest of grains and legumes in the 2023 season may reach 44.3 million tons against 53.1 million tons last year. This forecast was published by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on Tuesday, March 21.

“The decrease in the area under grain crops, together with the expected decrease in the average yield, caused by the increase in prices for the main factors of production, will affect the volume of the crop,” the report said.

In particular, the harvest of wheat is expected to decrease to 16.6 million tons from 20.5 million tons in 2022, barley – to 4.8 million tons from 5.6 million tons, corn – to 21.7 million tons from 25.6 million tons.

At the same time, the total production of oilseeds is expected to increase to 19.2 million tons against 18.2 million tons last year.

Including, according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the sunflower harvest will grow to 11.5 million tons from 11.1 million tons, rapeseed – up to 3.8 million tons from 3.7 million tons, soybeans – up to 3.9 million tons from 3.4 million tons.

Sugar beet production is also expected to increase to 11.3 million tons from 9.7 million tons.

At the same time, it is clarified that these forecasts regarding the indicators of the total collection are preliminary and will be adjusted during the year depending on the circumstances, especially the weather conditions.

The current forecast is given taking into account the autumn sowing of winter crops and the current state of spring wedge crops.

“The expected area of ​​grain and industrial crops for the harvest of 2023 in the territory controlled by Ukraine is 19.3 million hectares, which is quite comparable to the indicator of the previous period – 19.8 million hectares. At the same time, the area The sown of winter crops for the 2023 harvest is 1 million hectares less than last season, while spring crops are expected to increase by 556 thousand hectares,” the report said.

Planted areas of rice and leguminous crops for the 2023 harvest are projected at 10.24 million hectares, which is 1.41 million hectares, or 12.1% less than in 2022.

At the same time, oil crops, on the contrary, are expected to grow by 0.92 million hectares, or by 11.6%, to 8.86 million hectares.

According to data and forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in particular, winter wheat crops will reach 4166 thousand hectares (-834 thousand hectares compared to last year), spring wheat – 285 thousand hectares (+67 thousand hectares), winter barley – 536 thousand hectares (-255 thousand ha), spring barley – 1041 thousand ha (+111 thousand ha), corn – 3618 thousand ha (-451 thousand ha).

At the same time, the sown areas under sunflower are expected to be at the level of 5641 thousand hectares (+476 thousand hectares), rapeseed – 1374 thousand hectares (+110 thousand hectares), soybeans – 1841 thousand hectares (+334 thousand hectares) .

The area under sugar beet is also expected to increase by 40 thousand hectares, or by 22.2% – to 220 thousand hectares.

Recall that the sowing campaign began in 10 regions of Ukraine. In the past week, farmers planted 66.6 thousand hectares of rice and leguminous crops.

It is also predicted that this year the total yield of grain crops in Ukraine will decrease by 60% in 2021, oilseeds – by 15%.
