In preliminary discussions, the size of the loan was estimated in the range of $14 billion to $16 billion, sources said.
The International Monetary Fund is about to announce a new four-year loan program for Ukraine in the amount of $15.6 billion. This was reported by The Financial Times yesterday.
It was indicated that during the initial discussions, the size of the debt was estimated in the range from 14 to 16 billion dollars.
According to a source close to the talks, the announcement of the program is “inevitable” and will be made within days.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the IMF confirmed that talks with the Ukrainian authorities “have been productive and very good progress has been made in agreeing on a set of policies that could underlie a program funded.”
“Based on this development, staff and authorities expect to conclude discussions in the coming days,” said Vahram Stepanyan, IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine.
It will be recalled that in August last year, the IMF provided Ukraine with emergency financing in the amount of $2.7 billion. The fund also said they consider a full loan for Ukraine possible, although it is not usually given to warring countries.
In turn, Ukraine expects that the new IMF program will be developed in two stages – military and post-war.
