More than 50 suppliers from around the world are interested in energy cooperation with Europe, the European Commission said.
The European Union plans to announce a gas tender in April in an attempt to lower energy prices. This was said by the Deputy President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic, reports Bloomberg.
After the tender announcement, the EU is expected to sign the first contracts with suppliers from the US, Africa and the Middle East in June.
“I hope that we will create a new system that will increase competition, attract new suppliers and reduce energy prices,” Šefčović said.
According to him, more than 50 suppliers from around the world are interested in energy cooperation with Europe.
According to preliminary estimates, the joint demand of the 27 member states of the EU will reach 24 billion cubic meters. m in the next three years. Šefčović noted that the greatest interest in the joint purchase of gas from European industrial consumers is observed in industries such as steel production, aluminum, ceramics, glass and vehicles.
“The need to deal with prices is becoming more urgent. We cannot grow our economy with a huge price difference between the US and China,” he insisted.
Previously, the European Commission proposed a plan of measures to curb gas prices, which included a “dynamic cap” mechanism in the event of large jumps in prices on the Amsterdam gas exchange, but on a temporary basis basis – no more than three months. It is also proposed to apply the formula of collective purchases of gas, which has been tested with coronavirus vaccines, which will meet at least 15% of the total European demand for this type of fuel.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is ready to buy 2 billion cubic meters of gas with the help of the EU for next winter. Then it is about the energy platform of the European Union.
