The World Bank announced the provision of $1.78 billion in aid to Turkey to recover from the devastating earthquakes. This was reported on February 9 by the press service of the financial institution.
It was noted that the WB has also started a rapid assessment of losses to identify priority areas for support.
“We are providing immediate assistance and preparing a rapid assessment of urgent and large-scale land needs. This will allow us to identify priority areas for the country’s recovery and reconstruction,” the World Bank said. President David Malpass.
Immediate assistance of $780 million will be provided through the Emergency Response Components (CERC) under two existing projects in Turkey, the bank said. The funds will be used to upgrade basic infrastructure at the municipal level.
Also, one billion dollars will be allocated to support earthquake victims.
Remember, on February 6, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in Turkey.
According to the latest official data, 18,342 people became victims of the elements in the country, and 74,242 others were injured.
