“We have discussed with Energy Minister Galushchenko how much gas Ukraine can buy through the EU energy platform. It is about 2 billion cubic meters. And I can tell you that Ukraine is one of the first country that has clearly indicated the need for it. ,” said Shevchovich at a joint meeting of the government of Ukraine and the European Commission in Kyiv.
He noted that this issue will undoubtedly be a priority and thanked the Ukrainian side for its interest in the EU energy platform.
Shefcovic added that Kyiv and Brussels will work closely together to develop the potential of Ukraine’s other major asset – Europe’s largest underground gas storage facility.
“It is very impressive that despite the war in Ukraine there are several companies that store gas in the facilities of the Ukrainian UGS and show what a great potential for its use there in peacetime,” the said the EC vice-chairman.
On Thursday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen invited Ukraine to participate in the system of joint gas purchases (LNG) through a common energy platform.
As you know, this year the EU hardly uses gas from Russia, relying on the supply of raw materials from the United States, Norway and some other countries.
